Lightweight and easy to use

Whether it's for training or actual use, this axe is what it is. I prefer a thicker handle to add weight but it is quite good for indoor operations due to its size and weight.

M48 Kommando Survival Hiking Axe Staff

Item arrived in a timely manner and in good condition, plus appears as advertised. It is sturdily built, and comes with the blade sharpened and sheathed. It is indeed of lighter weight, but is more towards the size of a walking stick, than a staff. The feature on the rear side of the head ends in a semi-blunt, hammer-like surface, although impractical to be used as such. Would be nice if they redesigned it into a true point. I am pleased with the item.

Fills a very narrow need for hiking stick, brush cutting and minimal animal protection.

It is true that head attachment is too weak for multiple strong chopping blows, but you can drill them out with larger bolts, hence 4 stars. I like this stick because of it small, lightweight size for hiking man made trails. In a mixed hiking group of strangers, the weapon sized head might draw unwanted attention alone, in the middle of the woods. Group hikes and Rambo don't always mix well. I am 5'10" and the stick is too short for me to grip the provided shaft hand hold, and gripping this by the larger axe head gives me less control and might be uncomfortable in a long 2 hour hike. Overall, I like design and weight, but after handling it, I question how effective it would be in a sneak small black bear animal attack when there is no time to draw back and stop a charging or jumping animal. This would be better for snakes and crawling threats and hacking thru brush. Sheath knives and a hiking partner are a better first line of defense. But this remains for me, a cool tool !

A pleasant surprise ...

I've been a martial artist for over 40 years. Made the move from hand-to-hand to weapons about 30 years ago. So you can trust me when I say this walking axe is well made, sturdy, well balanced and razor sharp. I ran through a couple kama kattas with it and it actually worked out better than a kama. Resting the shaft against my forearm through strikes and slashes, then letting it shoot out the extra 2 feet mid-strike like a tonfa, added a new depth to the ferocity and potential destructive force of each form. The slight flex of the shaft allows even greater speed, as it creates a mild whipping motion, amplifying the speed and force of swinging blows. It's my new go-to for romps in the deep, dark woods as well as night time strolls in the big, bad city. I reccomend it. Big time.

Good, for what it is

I've not yet had a reason to use it, but I can tell the crafting is top notch. The very ends of the blade aren't that sharp (first thing I check) the weight balance though is fantastic. The only thing I'd change is the grip, if you're not careful it can slide out pretty well, I'll be making a slight modification. Otherwise, fantastic. Hoping this gets to the company though, make the same without the axe head, just the hammerhead, for us city-folk, I love this, but I can't take it out.

Log splitting

It held up pretty well for my trip out in the woods. Barely had to sharpen it and love the look of it too

Never regretted this purchase

I employed this axe as a part of my camping equipment 2 years ago, and have had nothing but great results. It has become my go-to for every campfire I've had since. Not only does it split wood really well, but I also use it as a fire tool to move burning logs around. It doesn't burn, melt, or warp under the heat. I cannot count the number of times ive whipped this bad boy out to make easy work of a bundle of firewood, but I can say that it is still solid after 2 years. It is so much a part of my camping essentials I've nicknamed it Brutus. Oh, and it works great to run off racoons and nosy neighbors and too.
